Vintage Thingy Thursday

My friend, Dawn, always has really neat "vintage Thursday" posts. I did some of these awhile back and thought I would try some more. This is kind of a vintage, flashback post. This is the story of my very first eBay purchase (my husband rues the day that I got hooked on online auctions). When I was just a lass (long ago, probably junior high) I had these books. They were about a baby, in utero, and his comments on the world. His name was Eggbert. In some of these books, his twin sister, Eggberta, makes an appearance. I loved these books, I thought they were hilarious and I read them many times. A few years ago, my mind tickled with the memory of Eggbert and Eggberta's adventures so I began exploring how to find them again. They had been out of print for quite awhile, so it was off to search for collectible books. I found them all right - the cheapest one was $65 - mind you, the price on the front of the book is $1.50. Okay, I figured out fairly quickly that as much as I enjoyed the books, Greg would not agree that one was $65 worth of enjoyment. That is when someone mentioned "ebay" in my presence. My ears perked up and it was off to my computer and SUCCESS. Sure enough, they were right there. So thus began my love affair with the online auction. A group of the books were up for sale, starting price about $15. I very excitedly placed my bid. checked the action constantly, increasing the bid when necessary, when finally, with pounding heart I beat that other bidder to the punch. I got my five books Woo Hoo!! I did have to pay $55 dollars, but hey, that's FIVE books - so what if back in the day the entire group was about $7.50. I'm not sure if Greg thought it was such a magnificent bargain, he just shook his head, much like he still does when he sees Paypal on our credit card. Ebay and I have become best buddies :) The copyright on the books range from 1962 to 1969 - and they are in great shape. You can really tell how times have changed in the way we view pregnancy from the contents, you'll just have to take my word on that one. But I do treasure my little "baby" books, still laugh when I read them, and I will even allow you to peruse them when you come over, but you might have to wash your hands first...

I just thought I would include a few of the cartoons. They just make me smile!

Man, I hadn't seen those in forever. My aunt had some at her place and I recall reading a few of them, they were a hoot! Thanks for the memories!

Those are so cute! I don't think I've ever seen them. Thanks for sharing and I think you got a bargain for something that gives that much pleasure!
